                                                                                                           he became the first professor of Italian Literature at Columbia
                                                                                                           University at 75. Four years later he became an American citizen.
                                                                                                           At 86 he raised $30,000 and built the first all-purpose opera house
                                                                                                           in New York City. Famous for his gourmet dinners he died in
                                                                                                           his Broome Street home at age 89. What a guy!
