Abacoa Community Garden
By Richard Tribou
The Abacoa Community Garden is growing full speed
ahead as Florida’s fall planting season takes hold with many
a new face getting their hands in the mix at a recent kickoff
event.
A lot of work went into the shared garden beds, and the
peppers and beans are already going strong. For those who
want to take a moment to enjoy the fruits of the ongoing
labor, the garden is hosting a new event on Wednesday
evenings starting Oct. 16 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Herbal Happy Hour is about relaxing and getting
to know other garden members with weekly herb-inspired beverages.
Come on out every Wednesday through Dec. 18 except for Thanksgiving week and enjoy a
tasty drink using mint, lemongrass, basil or other herbs while sharing recipes, advice and seeing
what’s ready to harvest.
Members and those interested in joining the garden can still come out on Saturdays from 8:30
to 11:30 a.m. to work on plantings together and work on other projects while enjoying expert
advice and getting free seeds for individual beds and taking home the latest group produce.
The garden is located just west of Central Boulevard off Community Drive between Allegro
and Renewal Church.
For more information on membership and individual plots, go to www.abacoa.com/abacoa-
community-garden or contact Heather Danforth at heather.danforth22@gmail.com.
