      Twilight Golf League

It was such a fitting ending to such a bazaar “COVID-19
impacted” season when the Twilight Golf League completed
its 13th year at the Abacoa Golf Club Thursday with a record-
setting and fun-filled nine hole scramble golf tournament.
We had 32 players participating in the finale, the most ever
in our history at Abacoa. In addition, like the entire 16-week
season, where we had no rainouts, the tournament weather
again was perfect thanks to our terrific rain judges Shaun
Moore and Steve Dellapina. The course was in great shape
too and that led to some spectacular rounds of golf.
Winning the scramble event with an unbelievable record-
setting round of eight-under 28 was the team of Jonas
Blomqvist, Vince Chillemi, Mario Renzulli and Tim
Moore. The only hole they didn’t birdie was the par-3 15th.
Tying at five under and coming in second after matching Palmer Flight winners Cory Green and Rob Holden Palmer Flight runners-up David Murray and Brian Foy
cards was the team of Justin Vanportfleet, Phil Doe, Rich
Maringione and Rob Holden. Finishing third was the
foursome of Brian Foy, Kevin Webb, Brian Rheinecker Schedule a Tour
Closest to the pin honors went to Rich Maringione who BECOME A CRUSADER! 561-683-6266
and John Cannova. Taking the long drive contest was Vince
Chillemi with a monstrous 300-yard drive on the 17th hole.

put his shot to about 4 feet on the 15th hole. And, despite
having 32 players in the field, only six managed to hit the
13th green in the brisk wind to capture a “Greenie” prize.
Congratulations to all our scramble winners. Thanks for your
loyalty and support in participating in this fun-filled ending
      to our season.
And now for league play news: Taking first place in the
Palmer Flight was Team 9, comprised of Cory Green and
Rob Holden. Rob was a last-minute addition to the team as
Cory’s father Greg Green broke his wrist right before the
start of our season and Rob graciously filled in. Runner up
was Team 10 comprised of David Murray and Brian Foy.
Winning the Nicklaus Flight was Team 16 comprised of
Shaun Moore and his father Tim. During the playoffs, Shaun
shot two spectacular rounds of 41and with his 13 handicap
he crushed his opponents. Shaun said he found some things
on the range which made a big difference to his scoring at
the end of our season. Finishing in the runner up spot for the
second year in a row was Team 22 featuring Phil Doe and
      Steve Karlik.
         Congratulations to all our winners.
In closing, it’s been a pleasure to once again serve as your
commissioner. This league has exceeded all my expectations
and the sportsmanship and comradery displayed by all of you
is what makes my job as your commissioner so gratifying.
Thanks for your continued participation, loyalty and support
      to the league.
Stay safe, and I look forward to seeing all of you again
in the spring, if not on the course before then. Cardinal Newman High School | cardinalnewman.com
