Partnered With Redfin
By Jim Weix
It is no secret that
traditional real estate has
Stuart changed, particularly when
it comes to commissions.
There are few sellers

commission to sell their
home, particularly now
At HarborChase when it often sells in three
days or less.
That is why I decided to partner with Redfin (https://
www.redfin.com/real-estate-agents/james-weix). I still
work with The Keyes Company, but now my potential
sellers and buyers can benefit from the savings that Redfin
can offer them. That includes lower sales commissions for
sellers and cash back for buyers. It is a winning situation
for both.
Granted, I already offer sellers a deal on commissions
and I will give cash back to my buyers. However, I have
discovered that partnering up with Redfin helps me reach
more buyers and market my listings to six million people
a month that I may not reach otherwise.
It has been an interesting journey to reach this point
though. I watched when Zillow first came on the scene.
Most Realtors shared their listings with Zillow for the
®
added exposure. Soon Zillow became the most popular
real estate site for people looking for homes. Their sister
company, Trulia, is the second most popular.
Zillow then took our listings, which we provided for
free, and offered to sell us “buyer leads” for the properties
that were being given to them for free. I’ll let you decide
how smart that was!
However, Realtors worked with the situation the best
they could. Zillow gladly took our money and promised
that they would never be a competitor. Needless to say,
Zillow is now opening brokerage firms across the United
States.
So, when I thought of how I could best serve my
clients, I decided to partner with one of the firms that
my potential clients were using: Redfin. Realtors with
Redfin handle roughly three times as many clients than
the average Realtor.
Yes, if I am honest with myself, I miss the days
of traditional real estate. List a home, advertise it in
magazines, hold open houses, etc. However, like nature,
the only thing constant in business is change. We need to
change with it.
