Screenings Key To Beating
Breast Cancer
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time
to raise awareness about a disease that will affect about one in
eight American women during their lifetime.
Early detection and regular screenings are vitally important
factors when it comes to beating breast cancer. Regular
breast cancer screenings can help detect breast cancer sooner,
sometimes before symptoms appear. Women between the ages
of 20 and 39 should have a clinical breast exam by a healthcare
professional every one to three years. Women ages 40 and older is important to be aware and to talk to your physician if you

Women who inherit the BRCA 1 or 2 gene have a
significantly higher risk of developing breast cancer. About
12 percent of women in the general population will develop
breast cancer sometime during their lives. By contrast, about
55 to 65 percent of women who inherit the BRCA1 mutation
and about 45 percent of women who inherit the BRCA2
mutation will develop breast cancer by age 70.
If you or someone you know has had an immediate
(mother, sister, daughter) or secondary family member
(grandmother, aunt, cousin) with breast cancer, you should
talk to your doctor about your risk.

Madhu Sasidhar, M.D.,
Named President Of Cleveland
Madhu Sasidhar, M.D.,
has been appointed president
Most recently, Dr.
Sasidhar served as chief
medical officer, Cleveland
Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD)
in the United Arab Emirates.
During his time there
managing clinical operations,
he was instrumental in
growing both outpatient and surgical volume as well as
increasing hospital transfers to CCAD. He also chaired the
hospital’s COVID-19 task force.
Prior to joining CCAD, Sasidhar served as section head
for enterprise respiratory care in the Respiratory Institute at
Cleveland Clinic main campus. Sasidhar has been a member
of Cleveland Clinic’s professional staff as a practicing
pulmonologist since 2008.
“Tradition Hospital has expanded significantly since it
opened in December 2013 and it is well positioned for further
growth,” says Cleveland Clinic Florida CEO and President
Conor P. Delaney, M.D., Ph.D. “Madhu’s experience in

After earning his medical degree from the Jawaharlal
Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research
in Pondicherry, India, Sasidhar completed his residency in
internal medicine at Saint Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital Center
in New York.
He completed his fellowship training in pulmonary
and critical care medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital in
Connecticut, and recently earned his master’s degree in
business administration from Insead, Fontainebleau, France.
Sasidhar will be in a new position as Robert L. Lord Jr.
prepares to retire as president of Cleveland Clinic Martin
Health and its three hospitals at the end of the year. Lord
will be continuing his role as president of Martin North and
Martin South hospitals until the end of this year. Interviews
are underway for the position of president at Martin North
and Martin South hospitals.
