United Way Celebrates 50
Years At Donor Appreciation
Luncheon
United Way of Martin County celebrated its 50th year of
caring for our community with more than 50 supporters at a
donor appreciation luncheon held at Bonefish Grill on Nov. 10.
The event honors major donors who invest over $1,000 annually
in the community through United Way.
Martin County School District Superintendent and United
Way of Martin County Board Member Dr. John Millay
addressed the crowd of supporters and thanked them for making
a difference for their neighbors in Martin County. “I get to see
firsthand in the school district how the United Way builds bridges
in our community by connecting families with resources they Carol Houwaart-Diez and Frank Left to right: Elisabeth Glynn, Josh Ferraro, Gary Lesser, Chad Hastings, Chuck
need the be successful. That wouldn’t be possible without all of Byers Geary and Carol Houwaart-Diez
you,” Millay said.
The staff at Bonefish Grill volunteered their time to work the
event, and management donated the luncheon cost back to United
Way. Lesser, Lesser, Landy and Smith sponsored the luncheon for
the eleventh year in a row. Gary Lesser provided closing remarks
and encouraged donors to commemorate United Way of Martin
County’s 50th anniversary with a gift to its foundation. “One
good deed has ripple effects. When you support this organization,
you are improving someone’s life and, in some instances, saving
someone’s life,” Lesser said. “By giving a gift to the foundation
you are ensuring that United Way will be here to improve lives
for the next 50 years and beyond.”
