Over 200 players participated in the day’s events to
raise funds for the foundation’s Phoenix Scholarship
program. Since 2014, the Mark Garwood Foundation has
awarded over $325,000 to 51 adults in South Florida who
are in recovery, committed to long-term sobriety and ready
to begin or continue their educations.
Twenty of the foundation’s current scholarship recipients
were on hand to help ensure the event was a success. Tennis 3.0 gold medalists Karianne Lange and Lindsay Morales, Erica Garwood, John

story of losing their 24-year-old son, Mark, in 2014 after
his five-year battle with substance use disorder. Phoenix
Scholarship recipient Alexandria Dennison then shared her
own story of substance abuse and how the Mark Garwood
Foundation has helped her to live a life better than she
ever imagined.

At the Martin County
Genealogical Society’s
April 2023 meeting,
genealogist Coni Cadieux
will present “Stories from
the Past for the Future:
Bring Your Family’s Coni Cadieux
History to Life.” Her
interactive presentation focuses on how to preserve
stories that reflect personalities and interactions among
the generations, including ways to get children and
grandchildren involved. According to Cadieux, “Whether
new to genealogy or seasoned ancestry researchers,
participants will gain knowledge to help current and future
generations truly know the people on their family tree.”
Cadieux’s family has been involved in genealogy
for generations. For many years, she has emphasized
collecting family stories to help her children feel
connected to their family. A resident of Port St. Lucie,
Coni volunteers at the Family History Center at the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Palm
City, Fla.
Free and open to the public, the meeting will be at the
Blake Library, 2351 S.E. Monterey Road in Stuart, from
1 to 3 p.m., Friday, April 21. To participate via Zoom, go
to mcgsfl.org and register by April 20.
The Genealogical Society offers a variety of services
at the Genealogy Room in the Blake Library in Stuart
including an extensive research library, access to
several genealogy websites and assistance from MCGS
volunteers. For more information about membership,
