Three Senior Softball Teams Win Championships
In Winter League Cut Short By Coronavirus
The Jupiter Senior Softball Association’s 2020
Winter League ended prematurely March 13 because
of the coronavirus outbreak. Three teams won division
championships based on their records in competition that
began January 8 and was to extend through the end of
March, including playoffs and an All-Star game.
The closure of all Town of Jupiter fields and other
facilities of games and practices through April 19 because
of the coronavirus pandemic caused cancellation of many
other recreation and athletic activities beside the Senior
Softball Winter League.
Although the league was cut short it was still the
highlight of the 2019-2020 Senior Softball season that
featured games every Monday, Wednesday and Friday
morning at Jupiter Community Park, said League
Commissioner Dave Summers. “We had a good season
and everybody played hard and had a great time even
though the league was shorter than normal. Hopefully,
we can get back to having pick-up games again before
too long,” Summers said.
The league featured 12 teams among three divisions
with players 55 and older with the average age about 67
as well as a number in their 80s. The senior player was
Ollie Peters, who observed his 92nd birthday on opening
day. Registration for the 2019-2020 season opens April Super Senior Division champion team. Record, 14-11. Members are: Gary Vitaletti, Rich Accarino, Gary Davis, Pete Cohane,
1 and new players are always welcome. For information Doug Elder, Pete Leonetti, Pete Forgatch, Vic Triano (manager), Tom Walker, Larry Kruh, Johnny Moore, Ron Middleton,
