This “Pearl” anniversary year coincides with the 250th
anniversary of Beethoven’s birth and each of the orchestra’s
four concert series (performed in January, February, March
and April) will feature a work of the master composer. This
includes Symphonies No. 1 and 7, the Lenore Overture No. 3,
and his monumental Violin Concerto. In addition, works by
Wagner, Dvorak, Rachmaninoff, Schumann and Stravinsky
will be performed. The orchestra will also introduce music
by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon as
well as by Grammy-nominated guitarist and composer Joao
      Luiz.
This year four amazing soloists will perform along with
all the professional musicians of the ACO. These include
pianist Gabriela Martinez, violinist Elena Urioste, harpist
Bridget Kibbey, and bandoneonista Lidia Kaminska. The
bandoneon is a type of concertina/accordion particularly
popular in Argentina and Uruguay and is essential for most
tango ensembles. Lydia will be performing a concerto
written by a famous tango composer.
