year, the donations
topped 68 pounds
of produce, but
that’s grown since
even surpassing 500 pounds one year.
The donated produce goes to create healthy meals for
those in need, and a welcome form of generosity built from
volunteer efforts.
The garden has seen a lot more volunteers in March,
coming in the form of Kate Strein’s 8th grade English
students from Jupiter Middle School. Strein’s class has been
focusing on global issues such as human rights, poverty,
hunger, immigration, and approaching adulthood. As part of
project to understand global hunger and poverty, 45 students
have signed up to come throughout the month to lend a hand.
They will also be writing about their efforts and helping those
in the community.
Others who don’t want to write about their volunteer
efforts, but still lend a hand, can come to the garden each
Saturday from 8:30 to11:30 a.m. to find out how to take part.
Independent beds are available on a first-come, first-
served basis, currently full up, but there is a waiting list.
