Commission. The first headstone is unnamed and reads, “Here rests in honored glory a
comrade in arms known but to God.”

the bridge has its name. Because of the age and condition
of the original bridge, it was removed; however, it was
replaced with an identical structure. The original bridge
was removed in one piece, and can be seen a few hundred
yards from the new structure and is intended to be a focal
point for memorabilia.

forgotten are the more than 58,000 German soldiers buried
in Normandy, who followed the dictates of their national
leaders.
All citizens of the world should have the opportunity
to visit Normandy, but they must be prepared for an
emotional encounter.
