Just before most states issued stay-at-home orders and
lockdowns began, Acts Retirement-Life Communities
launched a massive Concierge Program across all its
communities, including Edgewater at Boca Pointe. Since
the beginning of the pandemic, Acts has offered grocery and
medication deliveries, food takeout and daily phone calls to
every resident at all Acts communities.
“Getting a phone call was so nice. It’s lovely,” said
Alice Struhl, a resident of Edgewater at Boca Pointe. “The
shopping list comes to us once a week, I get all my groceries
delivered. Dinner is served in our room, a five-course meal
and I’m grateful I don’t have to cook.”
“I would call a group of residents every day doing
whatever they need,” said Miriam Brohammer, a move-in
coordinator at Edgewater at Boca Pointe, who is among
dozens of employees participating in the Concierge program.
Over the past few months, residents and staff formed
special bonds under unprecedented circumstances. “The
residents looked forward to our phone calls and I really
enjoyed our conversations,” Miriam said.
“It’s like a family here. I have so much peace of mind,”
Alice said. “My background is health care, I worked 30
years doing social work. When I met the employees here,
they nailed it. This staff is so outstanding, they’re a team.
It’s amazing. That grabbed me plus the warmth when you
walk through the door.”
Some staff members even called residents on their days
off work to make sure they had everything they needed.
“It felt good to be there for our residents, knowing
someone is thinking of them,” Miriam said, “I thought to
myself, if they were my parents, I’d want someone to call
to check up on them.”
“I’m so grateful for all that’s been given to us. My
decision to move here two years ago, it could have not been
more wonderful. The nurse practitioner on campus also
provided me with some antibiotics I needed, so I did not have
to go to an outside doctor’s office during this pandemic. That
was a great perk of living here,” Alice said.
“I even kept up with my fitness by watching our
community TV channel,” Alice added, “They have exercise
and weight-lifting classes, and old movies at night. Between
the entertainment, food, deliveries and socialization, with a
face mask of course. It’s so magical here.”
