Naturally when I went to
Morris High School, I was also the youngest to graduate.
Because I was so young, the girls did not want to bother
with me. But as I remember, one girl thought I was cute
and so we kept company for a while. This did not last too
long.
Graduating from High School, I really had no
knowledge of what I would do in the outside world.
My father had a cousin who was married to a
businessman. He was involved with infant’s wear. He was
very good to me. He taught me how to be a cutter and
was good at it. It wasn’t long before I became manager
of his factory.
Since this was wartime, my best friend decided there
was a shortage of waterproof baby pants. We then became
a large producer of this item. But lo and behold, the
war was almost over when another company “Playtex”
produced rubber waterproof pants which made ours of
no value anymore.
We changed our manufacturing to all sorts of infant’s
wear. It was not long before we went out of business.
What was I to do now?
In my next article, I will continue with the next part
of my life.
Jack Kulick, former Cortina resident.
