Why Was Fort Lee, New Jersey, Named After A
Traitor?
Charles Henry Lee served as a general of the Continental
Army during the American Revolutionary War. Though he
had far more military experience, Lee was passed over for

custody Lee committed treason, advising William Howe

in a prisoner swap in 1778, but was later court-martialed
by the Americans for the offense.
