      Clowns On Call

      A Tribute To Silly Dilly

      By Harriet Rubin, aka
      Florabelle the Clown

Our clown alley had to say
goodbye to one of our most
      valued and loved clowns, Silly
      Dilly, aka EJ Dopkin, who
passed away on July 17th after
a long battle with cancer. EJ
was one of the original clowns
in the group; in fact I decided
to start the clown group because of Arlene Berkwich and EJ. I
knew in my heart that both would make wonderful clowns, and
it certainly turned out that way! EJ was also part of my Boca Juggles at the YMCA
Pointe Scam Troupe for many years. She, like myself, was a true
performer! She loved being on stage and could do all kinds of 2019. She was in her wheelchair, but still performed “Step On
parts, comedy, singing, dancing etc. Her speaking voice had a It” with J.J. Our condolences to her husband Michael and her
delightfully happy sound, which made her clowning even more family. We will miss her terribly, but she will never be forgotten.

times in the past 7 years she would say to us, “I love clowning have performed 3 Red Nose Reader shows. The first was at the
and being with all of you!” Even after she was diagnosed and in Millagro Center in Delray Beach for about 25 kids of various
treatment she came out to support us and even took part in our ages. Considering it was our first show, it went pretty well.

I ended up with crooked eyebrow lines and forgot to fill in the facial expressions was unbelievable. We are going to love the

and teachers loved it, so all was well. On Saturday evening, July 17 we entertained at the YMCA
Next we performed at Florence Fuller West, and we did in Boca for a group of 40 kids, ages 3-11. J.J., Twinkle Toes,
2 back to back shows. Again, not easy!! First group 22 - 4 yr. Juggles, Doc, and myself did not expect to put on a show, but

time, Twinkle Toes and I were very prepared, and the kids really hour. It was lots of fun, but we were exhausted when we finally
laughed and thoroughly enjoyed the session. We both learned left. After all, we are all Seniors!!!!
something from the experience, which is different from the way Unfortunately COVID is still affecting our performance
we generally come away from a performance. Instead of merely schedule, and both Millagro and The Hab Center had to cancel
