Habitat for
Humanity of Palm
Beach County is
one of over 250
Habitat affiliates that USMC veteran Lawrence
participate in Veterans Zwigart and Habitat homeowner
Build, partnering with
veteran support organizations, like Wounded Veterans
Relief Fund, to meet veterans’ needs. Habitat has
partnered with over 4,500 veterans and families to
improve their housing since 2013. HFHPBC currently
has at least two other veteran homeowners; and was
also working simultaneously during Veterans Build on
a critical home repair project at the home of the widow
of a veteran.
“At Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County, we
are proud to celebrate those who have served our country
and are honored to be able to assist USMC veteran
Lawrence Zwigart realize his dream of homeownership,”
said Bernie Godek, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of
Palm Beach County. “Safe, decent, affordable housing
is the centerpiece of Veterans Build, as well as providing
volunteer experiences that bring together veterans,
military families, and their neighbors. Everyone deserves
a home, especially those who have served our country
so honorably.”
Some of those in attendance included: Maria Marino,
county commissioner for District 1; John Snyder, state
representative; Ilan Kaufer, Jupiter Town Council
representative; Mike Durkee, executive director of
Wounded Veterans Relief Fund (U.S. Army veteran); and
Mike DeBock, HFHPBC board chair (U.S. Army veteran).
Lawrence (Larry) Zwigart is a United States Marine
Corps veteran. Originally from Virginia, Zwigart moved
to Florida in 2018 after earning certifications in marine
technology through the GI Bill. Zwigart is pursuing a
career as a boat mechanic and currently works at the
Jupiter Pointe Marina. Struggling to keep up with the
