competencies of global education in every unit: investigate the
world, recognize perspective, communicate effectively, and take
action. The garden volunteering project choice gave students an
opportunity to take action locally to help solve a global problem.
Other project options were:
• writing a letter to a senator/congressperson about a current
hunger crisis in the world and ideas on how our government
can help
• creating a public service announcement video to educate peers
about one of the topics of hunger we discussed in class Leaving Your Employer?
• participating in the World Health Organization’s Global Hunger Understand Your 401(k) Options.
