New “Art in Public Places” Sculpture
Symbolizes Dangers to Our Environment
Friday, March 18th, was an exciting day for Boca Raton.
As the sun rose on the main beach at South Beach Park,
people started gathering around the Pavilion. Gumbo Limbo
Nature Center and 4 Oceans were setting up tables with
information and preparing for a beach clean-up. All of this
was in anticipation of a new “Art in Public Places” sculpture
installation reveal.
Several months back, the City of Boca Raton put out a
“Call to Artists.” The challenge was to make a sculpture to be
placed at the South Beach Park for all to see as they approach
the public beach. The art work would depict the dangers of Preparing for the unveiling

His finished project is called the “REcycled Reef,” which
now stands for all to witness as a creative reminder to reduce
the use of plastic, and to be sure to clean up after enjoying
the outdoors. The work is a marine-themed sculpture made
from discarded materials found near Boca’s ocean, canals
