The city’s first hotel, a six-story, 126-room Holiday
Inn, opened for business in 1970 on PGA Boulevard. It
was built by Pappalardo Construction Company on a
seven-acre site close to the PGA Headquarters. For a brief
time, the hotel was referred to as MacArthur’s Holiday
Inn, after John D. MacArthur, the city’s founder. The
hotel served the area’s winter visitors as well as the city’s
many businesses. It also became a social hub for dining
and other social events for local residents.
