Palm City Farms Produce
And Market
There’s a new farmers’ market in Palm City that’s
changing the way we eat and grow food.
Palm City Farms Produce and Market is a family-owned
produce market specializing in fresh and local foods – plus
items you can’t find in supermarkets, such as local beef and
pork, organic olive oils, heritage-hog bacon, Everglades
Seasonings, and fried-green-tomato breading.
Just west of the turnpike on the corner of S.W. Martin
Highway (SR-714) and S.W. Citrus Boulevard, shopping
in this red barn-like building with rocking chairs and café
tables under sweeping porches is like a visit back to an
earlier time where food tastes the way you remember and
service comes with a smile.
Owner Rob Dawson, a graduate of Martin County
schools, IRSC, and Leadership Martin, explains, “My
family owned this property my whole life. So, when
commercial realtors started calling, we had a decision to
make. Let them turn it into a truck stop or create something
ourselves that supports the rural character of the Palm City
Farms community.”
A food-lover at heart, he chose to support the community
by selling locally-grown food. It tastes better, it’s more
nutritious, and it’s not subject to safety and security
problems that plague modern factory farming.
“We’re not all local yet,” Dawson continues. “Our small
farmers didn’t have a place to sell before. But we buy as
much as we can from them. It’s what our customers want.
Call Now for Your Everybody wins.”
AC TUNE-UP Dawson believes greenhouses are the future. They
harvest year-round and produce more food per acre using
fewer chemicals. To demonstrate this, he gave a local
nonprofit, House of Hope, land next to the market to grow
for market and their needy clients.
Their first harvests should be available in the market
soon.
So, if you’re hungry for something fresh and local …
