Confessions of a Jewish Hijacker from page 1 and inexplicably released. Upon his arrival in Vienna, he
was asked his first request in freedom. His response was
“tefillin.” He was thrilled to discover that the Rebbe had
already sent him a pair, which arrived moments later.
The inspirational Shabbos ended with a candlelit soiree
where Yosef told stories of Jewish life in the Gulag. He
also signed copies of his books for all the attendees. His
story inspired participants all to realize what a blessing is
it to live in the freedom of these Great United States of
America. Realizing how hard our fellow Jews had to fight
for their faith in Russia encouraged everyone to appreciate
our ability to practice Judaism in Palm Beach Gardens and
to cherish it all the more.
