paid subscription TV/film streaming services such as cardholders can take advantage of the library’s two be streamed on your Smart TV or ROKU device...on a
computer/laptop...or downloaded and viewed on a mobile
device via the Hoopla or Kanopy app.
Hoopla offers more than 13,000-plus movies,
including documentaries, educational and art house films,
children’s titles, and French- and Spanish-language films
with English subtitles. Hoopla also has over 2,000 TV
shows, from PBS, BBC, Nickelodeon, History Channel
and much more. Browse through the full catalog, search
for a specific title, or look through the selections by
category, such as “Book to Film,” “Feel Good Flicks,”
“Indie,” “Live Performance,” “Crime Thrillers,” and
“Based on a True Story.”
Hoopla allows cardholders to borrow up to 12 movies
every calendar month. (The limit is normally eight, but
has been increased while the library is closed.) Movies
are available for three days after you borrow them and
they return themselves so they’re never “late.” You can
also check out more than one title at a time.
Kanopy has more than 23,000-plus movies, including
documentaries, educational titles, and an array of foreign-
language films and shorts. These films are carefully
curated to include only award-winning or critically praised
titles from around the world. A special section called
Kanopy Kids showcases children’s TV shows and movies.
Browse through the full catalog at your leisure, enter
a specific title into the search bar, or select a category to
browse through, such as “World Cinema,” “The Arts,”
“LGBTQ Cinema,” “Early Film,” “Independent Cinema,”
and more. Instructional films, such as The Great Courses,
are also included.
Borrow up to 15 movies (referred to as “play credits”)
every calendar month. (The limit is usually six, but has
been increased while the library is closed.) Films can be
checked out for three days, and you can view the film as
many times as you wish. Check out as many as you’d
like at a time; they return themselves. If you check out
one of the Great Courses, all episodes are included and
count as only one “play credit.” The Great Courses can
be borrowed for a 30-day period. In addition, Kanopy has
created a “Credit-Free Viewing” collection. All items in
this collection can be borrowed in addition to your 15
titles for the month.
