The Jupiter Senior Softball Association’s (JSSA) 2021
winter league is in full swing with 200 registered members,
including 30 new players this year. Last year’s league ended
prematurely March 13 when the coronavirus pandemic closed
area parks and forced a six-month shutdown of the senior
        softball program..
This year’s winter league launched Jan. 11 and features 13
teams competing in three divisions. League Commissioner
Tom Cosentino said, “Overall, the league is going extremely
well. And the turnout of new and younger players has been
good for the league,” he said. Games are every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday morning at Jupiter Community Park.
New players include Lance Hengel, who is 55, the
minimum eligibility age. He began playing in pickup games
last December, a month before the winter league started.
“I’m having a great time playing. The guys are awesome,”
said Hengel, a Jupiter Farms resident. And he said he looks
forward to playing three mornings per week. “Sometimes it’s
four games because some Sundays I play in Boca Raton.”
The JSSA welcomes new players who want to enjoy the
benefits of being outdoors and playing a game they love.
There is no upper age limit but most players are in their 60s
and 70s as well as a number in their 80s. Gary Kunath, 63, a
Syracuse, N.Y. native who is in his third year of league play,
said he enjoys the camaraderie of other players and “the score Schedule a Tour

Division championship games are scheduled March
through the remainder of the year. The softball program
is a cooperative effort of the nonprofit Jupiter Senior
Softball Association and the Town of Jupiter. The JSSA
