on Lag B’Omer
Lag B’Omer is perhaps the most mystical of all Jewish
holidays. It commemorates the passing of the saintly talmudic
sage Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai around 1,800 years ago. While
hiding from the Romans in a cave in the Galilee for 13 years,
he and his son wrote the Zohar, the foundational text of
Kaballah based on the oral tradition from Moses. We mark the
festival by lighting bonfires, symbolic of the blazing passion
that the teachings of Kaballah infused into our spirituality.
