NEUROSCIENCE GRADUATE PROGRAM
WELCOMES INAUGURAL CLASS
The FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute welcomed the first cohort
of Neuroscience Graduate Program (NGP) students to the FAU
Jupiter campus. The innovative, multi-campus Ph.D. program –
which was announced in the fall of 2021 – provides students with
a comprehensive curriculum ranging from molecules to mind with
exceptional research opportunities and will serve as a key element
in FAU’s pursuit of groundbreaking interdisciplinary neuroscience
research.
The NGP program brings together FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt
College of Science; Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine;
College of Engineering and Computer Science; College of
Education; and the Harriet L.Wilkes Honors College, as well as
affiliate faculty from Scripps Research Florida and the Max Planck
Florida Institute for Neuroscience.
STUDENTS COLLABORATE WITH MAX
PLANK FLORIDA INSTITUTE
FOR NEUROSCIENCE
FAU students Seth Goldin, FAU High School – Jupiter Campus,
in partnership with Max Planck Academy, and Skylar Anthony,
FAU’s Wilkes Honors College, worked with researchers at Max
Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience to develop software that
helps analyze the precise location of proteins in the brain in an
automated and efficient manner. This user-friendly software, “Gold
In-and-Out” or “GIO,” was also recognized in a recent publication
of the scientific journal, Frontiers in Neuroanatomy.

Wilkes Honors College Welcomes
Class of 2026
Wilkes Honors College welcomes another
exceptional group this fall, with nearly 150
incoming freshmen selected from a highly
diverse and accomplished group. The
incoming class shares an average 4.25 GPA,
and among those are five National Merit
Finalists and one Goldwater Scholar.

Makes a Difference for Students
with Disabilities
The “Next Chapter Book Club,” hosted by FAU
John D. MacArthur Campus Library, is making
a real difference in the lives of college
students with intellectual disabilities.
Led by FAU Jupiter Library director Leah
Plocharczyk, the club is a collaboration with
FAU’s Academy for Community Inclusion and
the Department of Exceptional Education.
FAU Announces Formation of
FAU Health Network
Florida Atlantic University recently announced
the formation of the FAU Health Network – an
academic health network bringing together
the region’s leading public and private
academic and medical leaders driving the
future of healthcare in our region.
FAU Health Network will work to meet the
growing patient-care needs in Broward, Palm
Beach and Martin counties and address workforce
challenges by expanding the region’s health
related teaching and research infrastructure –
bringing together the vital healthcare components
that exist separately across the region.
Calling all NeuroExplorers to
ASCEND this Fall
The ASCEND (Advancing STEM-Community
Engagement through Neuroscience
Discovery) “NeuroExplorers” program is
back for the Fall 2022 semester! Students in
grades 6-8 can join professional neuroscientists,
and their trainees, in an interactive, after-school
program at STEM Studio in Jupiter. Lessons
and activities are made possible by FAU’s Stiles-
Nicholson Brain Institute. For more information, visit
