Community Garden
Students – Need Community
Volunteer Hours?
The Abacoa Community
Garden for years has
provided opportunities for
students to complete required
volunteer hours. We have
worked primarily with high
school students throughout
the area (Abacoa residency
not required) and can also
accommodate middle school students. Those aged 13 and under
will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All students
must have a signed waiver with their signature and their parent’s
or guardian’s. In the past, students have signed up by themselves,
with their friends, or even as a high school club such as National
Honor Society. Most volunteers have worked two hours on
Saturday mornings. Tasks include planting, weeding, mulching,
composting, helping with children’s events and general garden
activities. This is an opportunity to be outside, to learn about
gardening and food, and to even take home some delicious herbs
and veggies. Please contact Ginny at vhiggins2@gmail.com if
you or your group are interested.
There are only a few independent beds available as of this
writing. Contact Heather at heather.danforth22@gmail.com if
interested as soon as possible. Community membership is always
available at $36 per year. Forms are in the garden mailbox at
1122 Community Drive (across from Allegro) or online at www.
abacoa.com.
If you would like to donate to the garden, please send checks
to the APC (Abacoa Partnership for Community) which has a
501(c)(3) designation. Checks may be made out to APC with
Abacoa Community Garden in the memo line. Please send to
4600 Military Trail, Suite 212, Jupiter, FL 33458.
