Dream It Be It A Hit With
Tween-Age Girls

The 14 tween-age
girls who attended a one-
day seminar at the Palm
City Presbyterian Church
geared just towards them
– Dream It Be It – got a
wealth of information
and lots of tools to use
when making important
life choices in the future.
The event, which is
a national program, was
presented by Soroptimist Event chair Terri Pettingill and
International of Stuart SIS President Jill Keegan at the
(SIS) and through a Dream It Be It event Ms. Martin County Teen USA Jordan Scott with attendees at the Dream It Be It event
series of icebreakers,
interactive activities and input from local professional women
who shared their own experiences, the girls got to know one
another – and themselves – a little better.
Led by chair Terri Pettengill, who was assisted by several
other members of the nonprofit, there was something
important for everyone to learn.
Panelists included Natalie Desmangles of Center State
Bank; Dr. Mary Ann Searle of IRSC; Martha Williams,
formerly of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and currently
Campus Safety and Security officer at IRSC Chastain
Campus; Shalonda (Shay) Gibson, owner of The Healing
Connection; Alex Arnold, an IRSC Financial Adviser; Faith
Gisondi, licensed mental health therapist; Stephanie DeWayne
of By the Sea Hypnosis; and local business woman Mary-Jo Attendees Madison Leggett and
Horton. SIS members Deborah Wilde and Nidia Attendees Sabrina Morse and Nadia Celeyse Gipson at the Dream It Be
Topics discussed included Exploring Careers, Creating Bernsteil at the Dream It Be It event Morgan at the Dream It Be It event It event
Achievable Goals, Money Management, Managing Personal
Stress on Your Own and Personal Calm Through Mindfulness.
An unexpected speaker was Deputy Nicole Cristoforo
of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, who happened to be
making a routine visit to the church and joined the spirited
discussion, telling the girls about her journey from hair
dressing to law enforcement.
Jordan Scott, Ms. Martin County Teen USA, was on hand
to encourage the girls to be the best they can be.
Each girl made a dream board depicting her interests and
possible career goals.
Carrabba’s of Stuart donated the delicious luncheon and
Publix was a sponsor.
