JFS Offers Financial
Assistance for Jewish
College Students
Two opportunities are available for Jewish college
students to get funding for college through the Ferd & Gladys
Alpert Jewish Family Service (Alpert JFS): the Thelma &
Isador S. Segall College Scholarship Fund, and the Jewish
Educational Loan Fund (JELF).
The Segall College Scholarship Fund will award
scholarships up to $5,000 to any student in any one year.
Students must reside in the geographic area served by Alpert
JFS (from Boynton Beach north to Martin County, and west
to Wellington), and plan to attend a Florida-based university
or community college. Students will be evaluated on financial
need, with additional consideration given to their academic
achievement, community service, recreational activities,
employment history, Jewish involvement, and personal
recommendations.
The Jewish Educational Loan Fund (JELF) provides
interest-free loans for college, graduate school, and
vocational programs to Jewish students in the Greater Palm
Beaches. These need-based loans help bridge the gap between
a student’s total financial resources and the cost of attendance.
Students must be in good academic standing, and be enrolled
in full-time undergraduate or graduate study, or special post-
secondary training at a U.S. accredited institution; studies
must lead to a degree or professional certificate; financial
need must be demonstrated (2019 FAFSA is required);
and that they have sought and accepted financing from all
available sources. The 2020 application covers Fall 2020,
Winter/Spring 2021, and Summer 2021 (if needed, and only
for full-time enrollment).
For more information on eligibility requirements for the
Jewish Educational Loan Fund, visit jelf.org.
